I just got my air cleaner back from metal finisher. He did what he could to get it into shape. 46 years of driving took its toll.

It is re-chromed ,but the pitting was so deep he could not get it all out. Just the same, it is the cover that the car was born with. He was able to save the silk screen on the underside.

No over spray, but I think it is mechanically correct now. Here are some pictures.

This sounds like hard core numbers match restoration. Good work and somehow I understand you, it is only that part what is original and if you buy 20 usd Taiwan replacement it is not same anymore.
