It does indeed take more time up front to do the part throttle mapping (which should be done prior to the first WOT pull!) and requires a load bearing dyno to perform correctly. With the general expectation on the forums that these complex systems should be completely calibrated for all weather and traffic conditions for only $600, that means that the calibrator would often have to work for about $60/hr before any dyno costs, taxes, insurance, consumables, etc. This is where having a solid method/procedure helps, but it still takes more time than most realize, even for a skilled calibration engineer. It takes even longer if one is chasing their tail or uneducated as to how the ECU really controls things.
